Frequently Asked Questions
LUCA is one of the only college access and success organizations specifically supporting students. Focusing on the cultural identity of our Scholars empowers us to establish trust, build community, and maintain an enduring network of support. Our programs ensure that first-generation, low-income students enroll and succeed at schools that will open doors to positions of influence, where they can be leaders and advocates in spaces where they have not been seen or heard before.
Students who attend our partner high schools are nominated by School Counselors, complete an application, and join us for a personal interview. To be nominated, students must:
- Self identify as a first-generation college student
- Be eligible for free or reduced lunch
- Demonstrate academic aptitude with a minimum 3.5 GPA and a course load that includes AP & honors classes
LUCA partners with high schools in Westchester County, NY that have 50% or more first-gen student population. We are working to grow our capacity and serve more school districts and areas in the future.
Thank you to our current school partners – Alexander Hamilton High School, New Rochelle High School, Ossining High School, Peekskill High School, Port Chester High School, Sleepy Hollow High School, White Plains High School.
